Everyone has someone that they look up to, either as an inspiration or just because they really like them. This could be anyone from a famous person(s) to sports players to family members. Although there are billions of people in the world, these people are able to stand out and offer something that not all can. This could be something as simple as making music, scoring a touchdown, or always being there for you. I have a few people in my life that I think made me who I am today and one of them is a boy band, One Direction. Although they aren’t the most inspirational people in my life, they’re one of them.
The band consists of 5 boys, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan. About two years ago, they all had one dream, to win the UK X-Factor. Although individually they didn’t make it through the auditions, they were put together in a group in hopes of making it all the way. With a lot of perseverance and passion, they made it all the way to finals, coming in third. Getting to the finals definitely wasn’t smooth sailing for them, but they were able to get past the bumps in the road and gave it their all. Even though they didn’t win, they still tried hard to get a recording contract, and eventually got one. As well as being able to make music, they have already published two books; one is about their path to stardom, and the other is about their life. They inspire me because when the times got rough, they never gave up, and instead they tried even harder.
As well as not giving up on their dream, they have great personalities. Once they got a record deal, they didn’t turn into snobs, likes some celebrities do, but stayed the same as if nothing happened. I’m glad that the fame didn’t get to their heads and I hope it stays that way. Whenever they have interviews, you can tell that they aren’t serious people at all, but fun, a bit ‘cheeky,’ and down-to-earth type of guys.
As well as having a good personality, I really like their music. In August, they released their first single, What Makes you Beautiful. They should feel really accomplished because in a little over a year of knowing each other, they were able to accomplish what might take others years to do. Over the past couple of months I think I’ve become a total ‘directioner’ (a name One Direction fans have come up with for themselves). I’m really obsessed with them and get excited whenever someone mentions something about them. I would love to see them in concert, but unfortunately they are only playing around London right now… I definitely wouldn’t mind killing two birds with one stone by visiting London like I’ve always wanted to and seeing them in concert, but I don’t think my mom would let me. I think that if I ever saw them in concert, I would become a total ‘fan girl’ and go berserk. I would love to meet them one day in person, and tell them what an inspiration they are to me. They taught me that you should always strive for your dreams, and even if you don’t succeed, something good will come out of it.
