Day 13 - The Great Escape

This morning I woke up to a wonderful surprise; snow. As a child, I would have jumped right out of bed and gone outside to play in the snow, but today I didn’t, instead I chose to stare out my window, mesmerized by the beauty of the snow. Although I love watching snow fall delicately to the ground and how it glimmers in the sunlight, I miss the warmth that summer brings.

Summer has always been one of my favorite seasons. For one, school is out so I’m able to sleep in as late as I want to usually. The feeling of waking up because you want to, not because you have to is great, especially if the first things you hear are seagulls peacefully squawking at each other and the sounds of waves crashing against rocks. I’m fortunate enough to have a house down the shore were I can stay for the whole summer. I love being able to leisurely go to the beach and lay out in the sun whenever I want to. I’m happily waiting for the time when I start to complain about how 75° degrees is way too cold, instead of thinking how warm it is like I do now.

Summer is a time where I can fully relax without the stress of homework or projects. There are so many things that you can do to relax, there’s the obvious of going to the beach, but I personally like sailing in my sunfish. I love the exhilarating feeling when you get to the perfect angle, allowing you the perfect run (when the wind is directly behind you, allowing the sail to fully go out). Although there are some times when I get completely frustrated with myself for not being able to tack and get out of the harbor quickly, I get over it when I feel the wind in my face and the occasional wave splashing in my face.
